To be honest I kind of forgot I had a blog. The past nine months or so have been a little crazy, and I just forgot about blogging. So much has happened since I last wrote I am not even sure where to begin. Jacob is now 18 months old. He is very energetic and sometimes very hard to keep up with. He loves to run around the house, play with his sisters, color, read books, go swimming, and pretty much anything else that allows him to release his energy. The girls are both on summer break! Ella finished out her school year on the "A" honor roll and we are so proud of her. Emily finished with all E's:) They are both looking forward to the new school year, but have had a blast already this summer. They went on vacation with their grandparents up to Virginia and then spent some time with them down in Orlando.

Our biggest news is that we added a new addition to our family. Katherine (Kate) Ann Rich Hansen was born a week ago weighing in at 5lbs 13 0z, 18 inches long. We are so thrilled to have her home and praise the Lord that she is healthy! Everyone seems to be adjusting well. Jacob is not quite sure what to think of her, but enjoys kissing her and patting her back. The girls are such a big help with Jacob while I tend to Kate! I am not sure what I will do when they return to school. Kate is perfect in every way and we are so happy! Hopefully it will not take me another nine months to update again.

Well Jacob turned 9 months old back on October 20th but he just had his doctors appointment the other day where we got all of his stats updated. So Jacob is officially 17lbs (10th percentile) AND 25 inches long (25th percentile). He has 7 teeth, yes I said 7. Five of them came in in the same week. He is pulling up on the furniture, crawling around everywhere, talking a lot and very loudly. He is still a great sleeper and eater. He is really into his yogurt right now and gets very excited at the sight of the container it comes in. He is incredibly friendly with anyone that looks at him and can win you over in a second with his smile. He loves to be read to and talked to, he loves to hear the guitar and piano and he enjoys playing them himself. He likes to play with his blocks and like any man has to hold the TV remote :) We are having so much fun watching him grow and change, but cannot believe that in just a few short months he will be turning 1. We are grateful to the Lord for all of our children and feel so blessed.

Jacob also had his first haircut a few weeks ago. It was getting so long on top and looked a little like a comb over. He was so cute, but now he looks like a little man.

Catching up!

This has been such a busy month! It has been so long since I posted, but wanted to share a few things from the last several weeks. On September 12 we celebrated Emily's 6th birthday. For her gift she wanted me to take her shopping so she could pick out what she wanted. That was a lot of fun and would you believe she did not get one toy. We spent the whole time at Target looking for clothes and accessories.

The day after Emily's birthday, we had another reason to celebrate. Ella was baptized! On May 11th Ella actually asked Christ into her heart and to be her Savior, but was just baptized on September 13th. Every year our church does a beach baptism, which is where she was washed clean! Also, Jacob turned 8 months old on September 20th. We do not go back to the doctor until he is 9 months, but he is scooting all over the place, sitting up, and his newest thing is clapping. He loves to clap and he really likes it when people clap with him. He is still such an easy baby, very social and a joy to have around. Such a cutie!

First day of school

The girls started school yesterday. Ella is in second grade and Emily is in Kindergarten. Its hard to believe they are both in school now. They had a great time making new friends and catching up with old ones. The homework started right away for them. They both looked adorable in their pink and brown outfits. Emily has the same teacher that Ella had in Kindergarten. There is a picture below of each of them sitting on the same carpet on their first day of Kindergarten.

Weekend in Alabama

We spent last weekend in Birmingham, Alabama for my younger cousin Chris's wedding. He married a sweet, beautiful girl named Amber. My girls were flower girls in the wedding. They were, of course, very beautiful. We had a great time seeing family and spending time together.

On Friday, Jacob turned 7 months old. He has been sitting up on his own, crawling around like an army man, babbling like crazy, saying dada, smiling and laughing a lot, enjoying pretty much any food he is given, sucking his thumb and just being a complete joy to have around. I say it every month, but it is just going by so fast.

On our way home from Birmingham, we stopped in Auburn and visited the University. It is a beautiful town and college campus. We enjoyed our time frolicking around the campus. We stopped at the bookstore to purchase some auburn paraphernalia, we have not switched teams though, still a Gator household. Over all it was a wonderful vacation and a great way to wrap up summer time.

Today, with a few more wrinkles, gray hair, and an added few pounds Nels and I celebrate eight years of wedded bliss. Its hard to believe that we are already at 8, it really has flown by and it has been wonderful. In the last eight years we have moved 4 times, had 3 beautiful children, lost(until we meet face to face in Heaven) 2 precious babes, been to Hawaii, Zambia, Senegal, a cruise and various other locations, rode our bikes 160 miles in 2 days, and many many many more exciting adventures. We met 11 years ago and started dating 9 years ago. We love being outdoors, camping, hiking, boating, surfing, fishing, playing with the kids. We have lots of fun together, most of which is spent laughing. Our cup runs over and we are blessed beyond belief. Love you babe! Looking forward to many more incredible years together.

What a perfect day for water games. It has been so hot here and there was no rain in sight this afternoon, so playing on slip and slides was a great way to beat the heat. We have just one more day of clubs and then Power Surge! I am so impressed with how the team is still so energized when they arrive at the house everyday. I have been beat since Monday afternoon, and I am only doing this once a day, the team does three clubs a day. They also do such a wonderful job when presenting the gospel to these kids. I am not sure if there have been any decisions made yet by the kids in our club, but they are hearing a clear message of who Jesus Christ was and is and how much He loves them.

OK, I know every mom thinks that her baby is the best, but really mine is! He helps me do the laundry and he is only six months old. Seriously is he not the cutest thing you have ever seen. Tonight he is on his very first sleep over with grandma and grandpa. I think he will do just fine, but I am missing him. One day he really will not appreciate these pictures of him with his sister's panties on his head, but for now we can all enjoy.

Summer Days

The summer days are dwindling, there is less than a month left before school starts back. We have already taken a few great family trips and we have one more for a wedding in Alabama. The girls spend most of the hot days outside with their friends and we try and frequent the pool as much as possible. Nels turns 29 tomorrow and we celebrate our 8th anniversary in just a few weeks. I love this time of year where there is no schedule to follow, lots of time spent together, and just a feeling of freedom. Soon all of the chaos of everyday life will start back, school, homework, soccer, and we will be busy trying to beat the clock, but for now freedom.

Well I completely forgot to post a picture of Jacob when he turned 5 months old. Here we are a month later and I almost forgot again. So Jacob turned 6 months old on Monday. He has been sick this week running a fever, then he had to get 4 shots. The last few days have not been very much fun for him. At the doc he weighed 15lbs which puts him in the 20th percentile for his age. He has 2 teeth that popped up within just a day of each other. He rolls all around trying to get to whoever he can reach, he is always reaching for stuff and even gets a little upset when you take something away from him. He still loves to play with his sisters even when they put pink stuff on him. He enjoys dips in the pool, but he would rather be naked than have his swimsuit on. The YMCA does not allow naked babies to go swimming, so anyone we may share the pool with at the Y, it is safe to go in! I cannot believe six months have already gone by and our baby boy is getting so big. He has a very easy going personality and he is so easy to love!

So Jacob has been eating pureed foods for about a month now. When the doc gave me the go ahead at his four month check up I started giving him the "good stuff". We started with rice cereal, then carrots, avocados, and now peas. He is not terribly excited about his food, he eats it, but he would rather be chewing on his giant bib. So while he is chewing on his bib I manage to shove bites in his mouth and it creates a giant mess. Here he is enjoying his bib, I mean peas.

Jacob has two wonderful big sisters who take great care of him. They entertain him when he is fussy, they sing to him when he is tired, they feed him when he is hungry, and yes when they want a few giggles themselves they place a pink flower headband on his cute little head! Next week I am quite sure I may see him in their favorite Cinderella dress:)

What is summer time without pool time! I took Jacob swimming for the first time today. He seemed to enjoy it, but did not get to excited until his clothes came off and he felt the pool in his birthday suit. I will spare you and him those pictures since I just posted one of the boy in a pink headband. But here are some of the other pictures form the pool. My dad met us at the pool today, we had a great time!

Ella went blueberry picking with her friend Sophia this mornig. She picked two pounds, but I think only made home with a pound. That was plenty to make a cobbler out of, Yummy!

We actually made two, the other one we gave to my parents! You will have to wait until after dinner to find out how it tastes. Yesterday was the first official day out of school for Ella, so we threw a summer kick off party for her friends. We had a great time. There was a bounce house, a teeter totter, two slip n slides, water balloons, bubbles and lots of snacks. The kids from the neighborhood and kids from Ella's class came. I love summer time and I am looking forward to all of the fun stuff we will be doing. Last night Ella and I got to go out to dinner by herself! It was a lot of fun to spend some time with her. Jacob was there, but he did contribute a lot to the conversation:)

Now I have some pictures of Jacob to post. I am embarrassed to say that I have no pictures up of Jacob in the house yet. I have taken many since he was born almost five months ago, but have yet to print one out and frame it. I took some this morning and wanted your opinion. Which one do you guys think I should frame, or should I keep trying to get a better one. I have my favorite, but I want to see what you have to say.

So today marks Ella's last day of first grade. I cannot believe that she is growing up so fast, I know that is so cliche. I can hardly remember her not being able to read or tie her shoes. She is so independent now, I don't even have to make her breakfast anymore. She wants to be an author when she "grows up" and she is constantly writing stories. I am not a real sad or weepy mom about my kids getting older, I actually love it. Its just that all of the sudden it seems to be going by at double time. Each new year brings more fun outings and memories to be had, each new grade brings more friendships and learning experiences. So for the next few months I will enjoy summer with the kids and in August I will drop them both off at the same school, one in kindergarten and one in second grade. I will look forward to all of their field trips, class parties, and even the homework. At least I still have Jacob at home with me:)

On another note, I have been trying to take better more creative artistic photos of the kids. I would like to not ever have to take them back to Walmart or some other equivalents photo department and have corny pictures taken of them. For Christmas we got a very nice camera and I am trying to figure how to use it without the automatic setting. I have found that taking pictures of children who will not sit still for very long is very difficult. I do much better with the plants and flowers. If anyone has any tips for me that would be wonderful. I will share some of my favorites so far, but these are just very basic photograpgy 101 folks! I do take lots of pictures of Ella, I just have not been able to practice with them so they are just snap shots from school and stuff. Many more to come this summer when she is home:)

Wow I cannot believe that four months ago I was lying in a hospital bed, watching our new President take over, and waiting to meet my little Jacob. He was so tiny and precious. The last four months have flown by. School is out for Emily, Ella has 10 more days, soccer season has ended, and summer is beginning. Jacob weighs 13 pounds and is 25 inches long, believe or not they say he is small (20th percentile). He loves his sisters and finds them very amusing, but I think his favorite person is his daddy. He lights up when daddy is playing with him. He looks up at him so lovingly and just grins, (daddy looks at him the same way too!) Jacob is still pretty laid back, which has made the whole leap from two to three very easy. He sleeps all night long and I actually have to wake him up in the mornings to take the girls to school. Spring Break fun!

Jacob is 3 months old!

We had such a great spring break! It is always so nice to have time with the girls that does not include me nagging about homework, clean rooms, soccer practice, etc. Now that they are older most days are pretty hectic and there is very little quality time spent together. So we spent a lot of time this week together. We worked on a fun Easter Project that my sister in law sent to us. We had a great time and now have beautiful Easter Garland proclaiming the name of Jesus! We also went to the zoo, went to an Easter egg hunt, and a pool party. The girls also were able to spend time with their grandparents. They went to tunnels and tumbles which is a giant indoor playground, miniature golf, and laser tag place. They spent three hours their playing. Such a great time!

We had a great Easter weekend! We went to Church and then to a Jacksonville Suns Baseball game. They had an Easter egg hunt for the kids and then after the game the girls ran the bases. We have been very busy lately so I will update with pictures instead og dragging out all that we have been doing in words.

Spring Break is almost here, Any ideas?

Well today is the girls last day of school before spring break. We cannot go out of town this year, but I would still like to be able to do some fun things with them. Does anybody have any (cheap) ideas? I think the weather will be very nice, so I would like to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Of course whatever we do, Jacob will be tagging along too. He is pretty good at tagging along right now:) Let me know if you have any ideas!

Also, Does anyone have any advice on how to keep up a milk supply while breastfeeding, besides nonstop pumping, feeding, pumping,etc. I am having trouble keeping up with his feeding needs.

Praying for Stellan

My heart is aching this week for this sweet family and their precious son Stellan. I read about him about four months ago when he was born healthy despite doctors saying he would not live. Stellan has a heart condition that I am not going to try and explain, but it is serious. If you are reading, if you feel led, pray for him. Drop to your knees and pray for this child, pray for his family, and praise our God that He is in control of this situation. His family was not expecting this, but our sweet Jesus is not surprised. Angie Smith posted these verses on her site to pray for Stellan and I wanted to put them here for anyone who reads this.

Surprise!

Today was a great day! Nels mom and Dad, aka Nana and Gramps, came up and surprised the girls. First they showed up at the house to surprise Emily and then they went to Ella's school to eat lunch with her. Ella loves to have people come eat lunch with her, especially on Friday's for lunch bunch. I told her this morning that I would not be there, so she was not expecting anyone to show up. I know it made her day! Thanks for coming up Nana and Gramps:)

Today Jacob turns 2 months old. I cannot believe that he just arrived two months ago, it feels like he has always been apart of our family. He just fits. He is such a sweet boy. He loves to cuddle up in my neck and take a nap. He loves kisses from his sisters and hearing all about our day. When we talk to him he tries to mimic our lip movements like he is going to talk back to us. He is very observant and always knows where I am. He is a mommy's boy! He is a great sleeper and he is pretty laid back. What a blessing! We were supposed to go in for his two month check up today, but I had a flat tire and could not make it. I was glad he did not get shots today because we have plans this evening, so I did not want him to feel bad. I did want to find out his weight and height though.

Tonight we are headed to our church for a goodbye party for our sweet friends John and Stani. They are moving to the Czech Republic for at least a year and we are going to miss them dearly. We will be praying over them tonight for their travels and for the year to come. We are looking forward to see what doors the Lord opens for them and hearing how He will work through them. We will miss you guys ! I will post pictures from dinner tonight.

I finally managed to change my background. I tried to change my header, but still no luck there,oh well. I am not sure I like the way it all looks now, but I am happy that I finally figured this out. Cutestblogsontheblock.com is awesome and gave wonderful instructions for someone like me.

I thought I would share a prayer request that I read off of Angie Smith's twitter. There is a family who just lost their sweet son Evan. I do not know many details, but they could use much prayer and some fellow believers to carry some of their grief. I also wanted to tell anyone who reads this to check out Ke lley's Korner and her recipe blog. I just made the poppyseed chicken and it was great!

*** As you can all see I still have not been able to change my background. For now I will leave it the way I have it.

I love spring! I love the see the flowers blooming, hear the birds chirping, smell the beautiful jasmine while I am out running and see all the new life. It is so beautiful here this time of year and the way I come to life when the sun hits my skin for the first time in a few months is wonderful. I could spend all day outside breathing in the fresh air. This is the time of year when we begin spring cleaning, throwing out our old junk and making room for new "junk". I always loved getting a new Easter dress this time of year and my girls love it as well. I loved waking up to see what was in my Easter basket and could not wait for the Easter egg hunt with my cousins after lunch. But This year I want to stay focused on the reason we are celebrating Easter, Jesus Christ. We have new life in Him. My Savior died for little old me ( and you) and I just want to remember why we are celebrating this time of year.

On another note, We had a very busy weekend. Nels and Ella ran in the Jr River Run, both girls had a soccer game, Emily had a birthday party to attend, we did some spring cleaning, and Nels and I managed to sneak in a date night. This was Ella's second year running in the river run and now she has her heart set on doing a triathlon. I think she would do great, we just do not have a pool for her to train in, she would have to be able to swim four laps straight. She loves swimming, but has never done laps before. Emily did awesome in her soccer game. She scored three goals and one for the other team. She did not do that on purpose, she was trying to turn the ball back towards her goal and it ended up in the other teams goal. Emily's friend Laci turned five this weekend and had her birhtday party at pump it up. This place is crazy,there are two rooms filled with the big blow up jumpy things. It was loud and crazy, but the girls who work there were so good at rounding the kids up when it was time to move on. Happy birthday Laci. Nels took me (and Jacob) on a date Saturday night to Sishi Rock. I love Sushi and it had been so long since I had any because I was pregnant. It was so yummy! Thanks baby. We also rented the movie Vantage Point with Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox. It was intense and had a few twists that I did not expect. We also did some spring cleaning yesterday. I love having a clean house. Jacob slept through everything this weekend.

Thanks to everyone who sent me info on cutest blog on the block. I have been trying now for an hour to set up my blog background and cannot seem to change the background. If anyone has the "cliff note" version of how to do this that would be great. Its not that big of a deal, I can stick with the black background.
On another note I was excited to see that a few people had looked at the blog yesterday, all 4 of you were my first readers. Hope you all will come back and bring friends. Maybe I will have a new look soon.

So this is my first blog post. I have been a reader/follower of many blogs for a while now but never thought this was for me. I will try this out for a little while and see how it goes.

I guess I should start by introducing myself. My name is Ashlee Hansen and I am 29 years old. I am married to a wonderful man named Nels. We have three beautiful children Ella Marie who is 7, Emily Maren who is five, and my sweet Jacob who is just 7 weeks. I am a child of God and I am thankful for his provision.

I am not sure if many will read this blog or not, but I will try and keep up to date with our lives.
